Fawnskin, CA October 20, 2014 – An Aircraft incident in the Fawnskin area was reported this morning at 10:48. The single engine Sonex came to rest in the dry lake bed of Grout Bay near windy point. The pilot who was the only person on board was pronounced deceased at the crash scene. The plane is registered to a person in Northern California in the town of Bayside near Eureka. A witness told KBHR that they heard the engine sputtering before going down in the field. Unconfirmed reports indicate that the plane was recently sold and was being ferried back East to it’s new home. High altitudes and mountains present additional precautions for pilots although at this time there is no indication this played a role in the the crash and will not be known until the results of an official investigation are released. Some Los Angeles TV stations were on the ground at this mornings crash scene in an ironic twist as they were covering last weeks, non fatal incident, aircraft wreckage as it was being lifted out of the canyon below the Arctic Circle.
