Big Bear Lake, CA, August 2, 2013 – The expiration and reduction of two surcharges will allow Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES) to pass on over $1,200,000 in savings to its customers each year. For the average full-time, residential customer, that means a savings of $4 per month.
As of May 2013, BVES was able to reduce the California Renewable Portfolio Standard surcharge by 1.4%. This surcharge allows BVES to meet its state mandate to procure 33% of its electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020.
In addition, the California Emergency Management Agency surcharge expired in June, resulting in a reduction of 2.98% on the average residential bill.
BVES Director Harry Scarborough explains, “BVES strives to provide its customers with reliable electricity at the best rate possible. By reducing and eliminating these surcharges, we’re able to pass on the savings to our customers, which help the average customer save almost $50 each year on their electric bill.”
The agency is responsible for engineering, system operation and maintenance, planning, meter reading, accounting, and purchasing quality for its entire electrical infrastructure, which serves approximately 23,000 customers throughout the valley.
