San Bernardino County, CA, May 31, 2013 – On Saturday, June 1, between the hours of 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the first countywide Gun Buy Back Program.
The program will reward voluntary surrender of firearms, while engaging our communities towards a common goal of reducing gun violence. It is an anonymous process in which individuals can surrender their weapons, no questions asked.
Weapons should be unloaded and transported in the trunk or rear area of the vehicle. There is no limit to the amount of firearms that can be turned in by individuals. Persons will be given a $50.00 gift card for inoperable weapons; up to $100.00 in gift cards for hand guns, shotguns and rifles; and up to $200.00 in gift cards for assault weapons (as classified in the State of California). All gift cards will be for Stater Bros. Markets throughout the county.
Once a firearm is surrendered to the Gun Buy Back Program it becomes property of the law enforcement agency and will not be returned.
Funding for this program was provided by California State, Proposition 30 – Schools and Local Public Safety Protection Act of 2012.
