Big Bear Lake, CA, May 3, 2013 – The Big Bear Cycling Association has published their 2013 calendar, and they’re calling the end of the week “Ride to Work Friday.” The encouragement is timely, since a report issued yesterday finds the City of Big Bear Lake has a higher than average number of residents who drive alone to work.
In 2012, 88.3% of local residents made solo commutes, compared to about 78% across the six-county region.
The Big Bear Lake population did enjoy a shorter mean travel time to work, however, averaging 18 minutes compared to the regional time of 31 minutes.
The statistics were revealed by The Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG), the largest metropolitan planning organization in the United States. SCAG compiles data from Imperial, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and Ventura counties, and publishes their city profiles every two years.
