Big Bear Lake, CA, November 16, 2012, 6am – The Big Bear Valley Youth Soccer League participated in the District 5 Open Cup Tournament in Rialto last weekend with the girls set to defend their Championship status from last year’s big win. The girls played with two goals in mind. One, to be the first team with back-to-back Championships in Big Bear Youth Soccer League history. And two, to win in honor of Cal South District 5 Commissioner, Big Bear Youth Soccer League referee, and beloved friend, Captain Rick Mccown, who passed away in a traffic accident about a month ago. Big Bear beat Hesperia, Morongo Basin, and Palm Desert, and moved onto the final game facing Hesperia again, shutting them out 3-0. They played on fields with the initials R M chalked in the center in memoriam. Coach Coreas would like to thank the girls, parents, and the Mccown family for all their support.
