Crestline, CA, September, 28, 2012, 6am – Caltrans is in the process of installing nine “Daylight Headlight Section” signs at various locations on State Route 18 from Crestline Cutoff to the Big Bear Dam. Caltrans worked in collaboration with the California Highway Patrol to install the new signs, which will enhance safety for mountain drivers who use the two-lane highway. Motorists will benefit from better detection of oncoming vehicles with headlights on during the day. The CHP will have a 30 day grace period while the signs are being installed, but after that, according to CHP Public Information Officer Benjamin Baker, the fine for failure to obey a regulatory sign could be as high as $350.
