Big Bear Valley, CA – Congratulations to the Big Bear High School track team on qualifying 19 athletes to go to CIF, the California Interscholastic Federation, to compete with other schools in our division. League finals were last Thursday and 19 of the 30 students competing have advanced to CIF including McKenzie Wolf who is the first girl in BBHS history to qualify for CIF in the shot put. According to Diane Kindle, BBHS Assistant Track Coach, Miss Wolf, who is a sophomore, is capable of throwing an 8-pound shot put 30 feet. Also, of the students advancing to CIF, only 7 are seniors at the High School making the remaining students underclassmen. The students compete as individuals unless they are on a relay team. Three relay teams have advanced to CIF that are comprised of one team of four boys and two teams of four girls. Additionally, students will compete in events ranging from the 200-meter dash to the 3200-meter event as well as the high jump and long jump. CIF track and field competition will be held in Carpinteria at the high school this Saturday, May 15th, from 8am to 6pm.
