San Bernardino, CA, October 23, 2014 – San Bernardino County’s Department of Public Health Officer, Dr. Maxwell Ohikhuare told the County Board of Supervisors that even though there have not been any confirmed cases of Ebola in California, the San Bernardino County is prepared. As an infectious disease, the Ebola virus symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure and include flu like symptoms. On September 18th, hospitals throughout the county met to discuss the Ebola virus and review the infection control process. Medical and public health professionals throughout the county are prepared to stop the spread of the virus by isolating ill patients, tracing all who may be exposed to ill patients, and further isolation of contacts if they develop symptoms. Medical workers are expected to report any patient suspected of having the Ebola virus to the San Bernardino County Department of Public Health. “We know how to stop the spread of diseases such as the Ebola virus,” said Dr. Ohikhuare, “I can assure you if and when we have Ebola in this county, it will be handled effectively with no danger to the public.”
