The Coast Guard Auxiliary is offering an About Boating Safety course on June 11 and again Aug. 6.
The course will cover topics such as boat handling skills, legal requirements and navigation rules, as well as local rules and knowledge. Updates on new state laws including the potential for mandatory boater education laws in California are included.
The one-day course meets from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Big Bear Municipal Water District board room. A lunch break is included.
Those completing the course receive a lifetime certificate, which could lead to a discount on boat insurance.
Cost is $45 and includes handouts and a textbook.
