Big Bear Lake, CA, September 17, 2012 – An early morning house fire today on Elgin Road is under investigation but is believed to be caused by an electrical fire. Neighbors reported smelling smoke at 5:00am this morning but no sign of fire was visible. Less than two hours later at 7:08am, dispatch received another call that smoke was visible from the house at 195 Elgin Road in Big Bear Lake. Fire crews were dispatched to the scene and quickly extinguished the fire which started in the attic of the home, according to Assistant Fire Chief Mark Mills. The home was vacant at the time of the fire. Mills also told KBHR that residents who typically toss items in an attic can bend and break wires that can lead to fire.
