We have received contact from CalTrans today (April 28), and officials tell us that though the weather over the past week presented some challenges on the Highway 330 project, the contractor has continued to make progress on the road rehabilitation, as the new culvert was installed two weeks ago and backfill has been underway in the meantime. Officials at CalTrans say that, despite the weather, the mid-May re-opening of Highway 330 remains in sight (thus allowing access for those coming to Big Bear to watch the Amgen Tour of California on May 21). Since the emergency closure of Highway 330 due to storm-prompted damage in mid-March, motorists have been directed to use alternate routes to reach Big Bear: Highway 18 from San Bernardino (and continuing along the Rim of the World Highway to 18 at Running Springs and on to Big Bear), Highway 18 from the desert communities, and Highway 38 from the Redlands/Mentone area.
