County of San Bernardino, by Supervisor James Ramos – It has been an honor to serve the residents of the Third Supervisorial District. We have accomplished a lot over the past four years. For the desert communities, a video conferencing center was opened in Joshua Tree giving residents easier access to all of the Board of Supervisors meetings. In 2013, a Solar Ordinance was adopted to establish a balance between the preservation of our pristine desert and solar development. We tackled the issue of illegal dumping in Lucerne Valley, and also worked with our Department of Special Districts to restore the Lucerne Valley Park Facility, renamed, Russell Park. Several pilot programs have been initiated, including the extension of the County Air Rescue Program and bringing bear-resistant trash cans to Angelus Oaks. In Big Bear, we were able to move forward with the Big Bear Zoo Relocation Project which is expected to be completed in 2018. My office was also able to allocate discretionary funds to various non-profit organizations throughout the district including the Barstow Senior Center, Big Bear Adult Learning Center, Yucaipa BMX Track, Loma Linda Chamber of Commerce, and many more.
I am very humbled for the opportunity residents have given me to serve another term. Some of the areas that I will focus the next four years include public transportation, public safety, and youth homelessness. There has been significant progress in SANBAG’s Redlands Passenger Rail Project. I helped create the Rail to Redlands Working Group which brings key stakeholders together with the goal of discussing and advocating in favor of improved public rail and transit service in the County. The group meets periodically to discuss project updates and I plan to host another working group meeting in the near future to discuss the latest project developments.
Public safety is another important priority of mine. In one of the toughest moments for our County family, our law enforcement officers showed just how great of a commitment they have to serving and protecting the people of this County. We must show this same commitment by making sure they have the necessary tools to do their jobs on a daily basis. I also remain committed to bringing an end to youth homelessness. Last year, we accomplished the goal of housing all of our identified homeless veterans; we are very proud of this accomplishment. However, it is equally important to bring some resolve to youth homelessness by continuing to advocate on their behalf.
Lastly, I would like to express my appreciation for the trust you have given me to serve another four years as your County Supervisor. I would not be here without your support. I assure you that I am more committed than ever to bring more successes to you, the Third District residents during this next term.
James Ramos, Chairman
San Bernardino County, Third Supervisorial District
