Big Bear, Ca, August 11, 2011, 12:00pm –The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors has been meeting over the past two months, and has been looking at how they will redistrict the county. After every census year, counties must reevaluate district lines, and if populations are not equal within districts then a redrawing of the lines is necessary. After several meetings supervisors Janice Rutherford, and Gary Ovitt, along with Chair Josie Gonzalez believe that the mountain communities of Running Springs, Crestline and Lake Arrowhead should be a part of District 2 along with the Highland area, thus splitting the mountain communities in half, with the Big Bear Valley remaining in the 3rddistrict. Supervisor’s Neil Derry and Brad Mitzelfelt are in favor of the mountain communities remaining in one district. According to Supervisor Derry’s Chief of Staff George Watson 37 people came to the last redistricting meeting, and 30 of those people were in support of one district for the mountain communities. Finalization of the new district lines has not occurred yet, and is expected to be settled in the next month.
