A suspect has been arrested in association with the two bomb threats at Big Bear High School, and that individual is a 15-year-old male, though given his juvenile status, the name of the alleged Big Bear High School sophomore will not be released. Per the statement issued by the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station: “On May 22 and May 26, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department and [the] fire department responded to Big Bear High School to reports of a bomb threat. The students were evacuated and the campus was searched for a possible explosive device, but nothing was found. Investigation revealed that a male juvenile had dispersed notes throughout the campus that a bomb would ‘Go off.’ The suspect was located and interviewed. The suspect did not possess any type of explosives or have access to explosives. The suspect was arrested, charged with PC 148.1/Bomb Threats, False Report, and booked into Juvenile Hall without incident.” The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station had, on Tuesday, partnered with the national WeTip hotline to offer a $1,000 reward for the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for the bomb threats. However, per Big Bear Sheriff’s Station Captain Greg Garland, “It was from evidence and interviews that we had talking to the students that led us to the arrest.” The 15-year-old suspect remains in San Bernardino County Juvenile Hall at this time, and goes before a judge for a hearing tomorrow, May 29. But, adds Captain Garland, “In cases involving juvenile suspects, information will be withheld, as will his name, and the Juvenile Hall Department will not be releasing any information.” As BVUSD Superintendent Carole Ferraud is off the mountain this week, the district’s Director of Special Programs Tim Larson did, on behalf of the school district, tell KBHR, “We were very pleased with the quick response by our law enforcement, and the apparent resolution that they’ve reached. We’re also very pleased with the response from our administration at the high school, and everybody’s focus on ensuring student saftety throughout the ordeal.”
