
Big Bear, Ca, March 31, 2011, 6:15pm –The Big Bear City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 800 block of San Bernardino Ave. in Sugarloaf at approximately 3:30 pm on March 31, 2011. A five year old child spotted the fire and alerted her mother, who then called 9-1-1. Upon arrival of fire crews, heavy smoke and flames were billowing from the home. The house sustained major damage. An adjacent house also sustained significant damage due to the extensive heat and flames. It took fire crews approximately 15 minutes to knock down the heavy flames and spread to the neighboring property. Both houses were unoccupied at the time of the fire. The cause of the fire will be investigated by Big Bear City Fire Department Investigators with assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Fire and Arson team. One fire fighter sustained a minor injury of a sprained ankle while fighting the fire. Big Bear Lake was also on scene to assist with extinguishing the fire. San Bernardino County Fire from Fawnskin covered the Sugarloaf Fire Station and Baldwin Lake Fire covered the Big Bear Lake Fire station while crews on scene.
