Three regulation-size soccer fields are coming to Big Bear, and should be ready for play at The Ranch Sports Complex in June. On Tuesday, the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved a $200,000 expenditure to allow for the Big Bear Valley Recreation and Park District to install both sod and fencing at the Erwin Lake recreation facility. Says County Supervisor Neil Derry, “I am excited that our children will be able to have additional recreational options in time for summer.” The three soccer fields will be completed by lowest responsible bidder Trinity Construction of Blue Jay, prompting Derry to add, “Not only are we giving our children a place to play, but we are keeping the dollars in the mountain community during this tough economic time.” In addition to having soccer fields in the summer, children will also have the slopes in the winter, as the agreement to continue Rec and Park ski and snowboard programs at Snow Summit Resort, which provides their facility free of charge, was also approved by County Supervisors at their meeting of May 5.
