Plans are underway to implement the hiring process for a new superintendent for the Bear Valley Unified School District as Carole Ferraud, who joined the district in January 2007, announced on June 3 that her last day as superintendent would be September 4, exactly a month into the 2009/2010 school year. On June 26, the school district’s Board of Trustees met with consultant Dr. Kegham Tashjian, who also serves as consultant to San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gary Thomas; the plan is to have a new BVUSD superintendent in place by November 1, provided there are viable candidates, following the August 10 closing date for the position. Given information provided by Dr. Tashjian, a compensation package for a new superintendent will represent an average, based on comparable school districts of BVUSD’s size (which, at present, includes an enrollment of just over 3,000 students served at seven school sites). As approved, the compensation package for the incoming superintendent will be $157,000, which includes not only salary but health insurance and other benefits. BVUSD plans to post the superintendent position on EdJoin.org, the premier job search site for California educators, as of July 13. The district has not yet named an interim superintendent.
