San Bernardino, CA, August 12, 2010 9:00am San Bernardino County Animal Care & Control will begin enforcing the mandatory Pit Bull spay/neuter ordinance in the unincorporated areas of the county on August 13, 2010. If a Pit Bull or Pit Bull type dog is not sterilized by this date, a citation may be issued. The fine for the first offense is $100, the second offense fine is $200, and a third offense within a one-year period carries a $500 fine. San Bernardino County Animal Care and Control currently issues $50 vouchers to residents of the unincorporated areas of San Bernardino County to encourage the spaying/neutering of all dogs. To further assist owners of Pit Bull and Pit Bull type dogs to comply with the provisions of the new law, Animal Care and Control will make available 300 spay and neuter vouchers that are worth an additional $100. This will provide an owner of a Pit Bull or Pit Bull type dog with a total of $150 towards the spaying or neutering surgery for their Pit Bull type dogs. The vouchers will be provided on a first come, first served basis and are redeemable at pre-approved veterinary clinics that have agreed to accept the County’s vouchers. The additional assistance provided to owners of Pit Bull and Pit Bull dogs will be at no additional cost to the taxpayers of San Bernardino County.
