Big Bear, Ca, July 27, 2011, 12:00pm – The County of San Bernardino is currently in the middle of the redistricting process and is seeking public feedback. According to County Supervisor Neil Derry’s office at the last meeting, Supervisor Derry expressed that he thought the San Bernardino Mountains, Victor Valley and Morongo Valley should only be represented by a single supervisor. Currently Derry oversees a majority of the mountains with the Crestline and Forest Falls area being overseen by other supervisors as part of their districts. Supervisor Derry believes that dividing the mountains in half would “dilute the voice of the mountain residents in elections and may result in their needs being ignored as the elected officials cater to the more significant population of voters down the hill.” The current population for the San Bernardino Mountain areas is around 50,000 people, which would represent one-eighth of the total districts size. Residents interested in learning more about the process may visit www.SBCounty.gov/redistrict where they can view proposed maps and offer comments on them.
