Big Bear, Ca, August 25, 2010, 12:00pm – In an effort to create safer communities, the Big Bear Valley Fire Agencies (Big Bear City, Big Bear Lake, and San Bernardino County Fawnskin) has initiated a program called READY! SET! GO! The program is about helping residents understand how their home’s location, surrounding vegetation, construction elements, other factors place their property and them at risk during a wildfire. READY! SET! GO teaches residents what they can do to reduce the risk of fire by – getting READY! It instructs residents on the importance of having an evacuation and survival plan by getting SET! Finally, it emphasizes the need to GO! and go early, before the fire arrives. It is not a question of if, but when, the next wildfire will occur. With advance planning and preparation, you can dramatically increase your safety and the survivability of your property. Residents can do the following to get Ready! Contact your local fire station to schedule a free home wildfire consultation, and take advantage of free curbside chipping program Thin Is In. Local fire Chief’s agree: “Fire Fighters train extensively and make countless preparations to be ready for a wildfire. Residents need to do the same. Successfully preparing for a wildfire requires residents to take personal responsibility for protecting themselves, their family, and their property.” Visit one of the following websites to get your free 12 page brochure about READY!
