This morning over 40 cyclists took off from the Bear Mountain parking lot, and will make their way to Mammoth Lakes, Ca over the next five days. Peak to Peak, as the event is called, is a fundraiser for the U.S. Adaptive Recreation Center, which allows children and adults with disabilities to face challenges and develop important skills through programs in the summer and winter months. The five day journey will have participants going over two mountain ranges, for 335 miles of riding. So far the cyclists have made it down past Lucerne Valley and are on their way to Barstow, where they will overnight tonight. Tomorrows ride will be the longest, taking the riders through Kramer Junction and overnighting in Ridgecrest. On Sunday, the group will arrive in Mammoth Lakes, California, and weather is expected to be in the high 50’s for their arrival. The riders do have a support crew of vehicles that carry their personal belongings, and tents along the way, and also provide mechanical support and food. Each rider raises $1500 for the Adaptive Recreation Center. Local’s participating in the fundraiser include Gary Stuebe, Kathy Portie, and Michelle Russell.
