Big Bear, Ca March 14, 2011 8:00 am – Multiple Sclerosis is an unpredictable and debilitating disease. It affects the central nervous system, disrupting communication between the brain and the body. This disease affects more than 400,000 people in the United States, 2 to 3 times more women than men. In Big Bear this year, MS Awareness Week is March 14 – 20. Volunteers from the National Multiple Sclerosis Society will be tying yellow ribbons throughout the Village to acknowledge the devastation the disease causes and to encourage everyone to join the Walk MS event on April 16. To sign up a team or as an individual, go the the walkmssocal.org website. Participants walk a 1 mile or a 5k course to raise money for research in the hopes of ending MS forever. In 1993 MS was an untreatable disease. Now there are exciting new therapies, thanks to the public’s support and participation in events like Big Bear’s MS Walk.
