Big Bear, CA, August 28, 2012, 3:00pm – The nation’s current economic status has impacted many businesses in Big Bear forcing some of those businesses to close. Though the changing economic times in Big Bear have affected many, none quite as personally as the closing of the Mountain Fitness Center. Owners, Ted and Heather Devito, are closing the gym for good this Friday, August 31st. In a heartfelt letter to their clients, Ted stated with regret and apology to their loyal members that after 3 years in business the couple have decided to close these doors while opening new doors across town. Sighting competition, excessive rent, additional staffing needs and small business demands and decisions that lead to the demise, the Devitos are, in essence, reformatting their businesses to highlight their unique and individual expertise. Heather, a physical therapist, will continue seeing clients at Above and Beyond Physical Therapy, and Ted will remain a CrossFit Coach and Personal Trainer. The Devitos will continue to work in close proximity to each other at their new facility which will be inside the Sky High Training Center at 644 W. Fairway in Big Bear City, across the parking lot from the BodyTek gym. Bob Antonacci, owner of Sky High Training Center, tells KBHR that he hopes with the addition of the Devitos to this corner of the valley, the area will become a mecca in Big Bear for athletes bringing together all the varied elements of fitness. Arrangements have been made for current members of Mountain Fitness Center to honor existing memberships at both BodyTek and Big Bear Total Fitness through the end of this year depending on the status of those memberships. Questions should be directed to either Mountain Fitness or the alternate fitness center of choice. Ted Devito tells kbear that they are looking forward to this fresh start and he is excited with the changes at hand because it will enable him to concentrate all his efforts on the proven exercise method of CrossFit. Additionally, Ted is organizing introductory lessons to CrossFit at the new location starting the second week of September. Mountain Fitness Center members can receive the six-lesson introductory series for the price paid for one month of gym membership as a special offer to give Mountain Fitness members a chance to try out the program. Finally, the official Mountain Fitness Center Decommissioning and Customer Appreciation party is scheduled for Thursday, August 30th behind Mountain Fitness on Fox Farm Road from 4 to 7pm as a BYOB and potluck and is open to the public.
