Mom & Dad Project In Danger Of Losing Funding

Big Bear, Ca, January, 28, 2011, 8:00am – The Mom and Dad Project may be in danger of  losing funding if Governor Jerry Brown’s proposed budget passes. The Governor has proposed a $1 billion cut of First 5 funds.  The Mom and Dad Project is funded by grants from the First 5 Organization, which comprises 93% of their budget.  Megan Meadors, the program director for the Mom and Dad Project told KBHR that if this funding is cut, it will be hard to sustain the Mom and Dad Project. “If it goes away, our program will go away.” Said Meadors.   Last year the Mom and Dad Project saw 815 unduplicated Mom’s and Dads.  The Mom and Dad Project offers parenting and education classes, the only childbirth classes in the valley, parenting education from pre-pregnancy all the way through the teenage years, they provide referrals to clients, and have a car seat program.  The Mom and Dad Project is open Monday through Thursday from 8am to 5pm, Friday from 8am to 1pm, and every third Saturday, they host a toy and clothing exchange. Night classes are also offered 2-3 nights a week from 6 to 9pm.   The Mom and Dad Project is asking for your help by going to first5sanbernardino.org for ways to help keep the money in the budget.  Meadors said “This could potentially mean the end of the Mom and Dad Project, so please help us.”
