Big Bear Valley, CA July 12, 2012, 7:45am (UPDATE) – The Updated Semi-Final Results are in for Measure M. According to the Registrar of Voters, the voter turnout was 43.85% for the San Bernardino County Special Mail Ballot Election. The majority of voters favored the measure, with 2248 Yes votes and 2116 No votes. That’s 51% Yes and 49% No, however, in order to pass, the Measure requires a two-thirds majority and that didn’t happen, so Measure M has failed. The results will now have to be certified.

As of Tuesday night the count was 2090 voters in favor and 2007 opposed. This type of Measure needs a two-thirds majority to pass. This Measure was meant to locally tax property owners in order to attempt to cover some of the school district budget short falls. Most to the blame, according to school officials, local teacher union representatives and board members, was due, in part, to statewide budget cuts. The ballot counting will continue today and the next count update will take place this afternoon. Big Bear News on KBHR will report the final count later today.
