Big Bear Lake, CA, July 5, 2012, 8:00am – Big Bear Valley registered voters are encouraged to mail in their ballots this week for the Bear Valley Quality Education and Core Academics Measure, known as Measure M, to ensure your vote is counted. The all-mail election ballot needs to be received by the County Registrar’s Office by Tuesday, July 10. Measure M is the result of a unanimous vote by the Board of Trustees for the Bear Valley Unified School District to place this measure on the ballot in reaction to the State’s budget cuts to education. BVUSD states that the measure will provide locally controlled funding to their general fund at an estimated $1.5 million per year. A “yes” vote for the measure, which is a parcel tax, will cost property owners an additional $49.50 per parcel, per year for four years. There are qualifying exemptions for Measure M for senior citizens, SSI recipients, and contiguous properties, however, those who feel they qualify must apply for the exemption. Depending on the outcome and certification of the Measure M ballots, exemption forms for Measure M will be available to be picked up from the School District Office at 42271 Moonridge Road in Big Bear Lake on July 12, 2012. The District Office hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30am to 4:30pm. Exemption forms may also be downloaded from the School District website or you can call the District Office at 866-4631 to request a form be mailed to you. Exemption forms must be completed and returned to the School District Office no later than July 26 by 4pm.
