Mayor Pro Tem Jahn Reports on SANBAG’s Plans to Introduce 511 Traffic Alert System for Inland Empire

The San Bernardino Association of Governments, or SANBAG, is a coalition of elected officials and the transportation planning agency for San Bernardino County. One of the big projects proposed by SANBAG is the reconstruction of the 15 and 215 freeways interchange, to alleviate increased congestion that extends beyond the Devore area—but, in the meantime, a traffic alert system may be up and running. According to Big Bear Lake’s Mayor Pro Tem Bill Jahn (who, as an extension of his City Council duties, serves on SANBAG), a proposed 511 program will provide up-to-date traffic information for those traveling through San Bernardino County. As Jahn explained during committee reports in this week’s Council meeting, “Once the [511] program is fully implemented, you’ll be able to get text messages.” Los Angeles has a similar 511 traffic update program, though SANBAG has opted to do their own, specific to the Inland Empire. Jahn reports, “SANBAG hopes to have it online this year—and at no cost to the taxpayer—so that’s pretty cool.”
