Big Bear City, CA, June 2, 2015 – The Big Bear Sheriff’s Station, California Highway Patrol, and Office of Traffic Safety has partnered with Big Bear High School to present “Every 15 Minutes” on Tuesday and Wednesday, June 2 and 3, 2015. This intense two-day program focuses on high school students, raising awareness about the reality and consequences of drinking and driving, and inspiring students to make informed, smart decisions as they prepare to celebrate prom and graduation.
Today, participants will reenact an alcohol-related traffic collision on Maple Lane in front of Big Bear High School. As a result of this event, Maple Lane will be closed between Big Bear Boulevard (SR-38) and Baldwin Lane. The closure will start at 8:00 am and will continue until 12:00 pm. The community is urged to plan ahead and use alternate routes.
The multi-casualty collision scenario will involve students from Big Bear High School and first responders from Big Bear Fire Department, California Highway Patrol, and the Big Bear Sheriff’s Station. Additionally, throughout the school day, the Grim Reaper will remove one student from class every 15 minutes and their obituary will be read, representing one more death from an alcohol related traffic collision. The second day (June 3), will consist of an assembly concluding with a challenge to the entire student body to make responsible choices when alcohol is involved and to never drink and drive.
