Big Bear Lake, CA — Our local branch of Arrowhead Credit Union makes the transition to Alaska USA Federal Credit Union on Monday, June 28, though accounts with Arrowhead Credit Union will continue on at existing branches, the closest being in Crestline. Existing ACU banking customers will have 60 days during the transition, through August 31st, to continue banking at the Big Bear branch in the Stater Bros. shopping center. ACU deposits, withdrawals and loan payments will be accepted, however, credit union services will be discontinued. As of Monday, banking customers can visit the branch to open a new account through Alaska USA, though this can also be done online at AlaskaUSA.org. Arrowhead’s Assistant Branch Manager Carol Baker notes that, if customers want to continue with Arrowhead, there will still be a fee-free ACU ATM located in the Stater Bros. market and, again, 19 ACU branches will remain intact, including the Crestline, Redlands and Highland locations. Alaska USA offers free checking accounts to those banking customers who maintain a $500 balance; otherwise, a nominal monthly fee is charged. For those who have an automatic payment loan established at ACU, automatic payments will be discontinued as of the 28th; choices to existing customers are to set up both an Alaska checking and savings account to continue automatic loan payments, or establish a checking account at another bank, and use online bill pay options. Baker will not be making the transition to Alaska USA, and ACU’s Big Bear Branch Manager Joanna Merrill is no longer with the bank, though many of the bank tellers will continue on at the Arrowhead Credit Union branch that becomes Alaska USA on Monday.
