An additional fee of $10 will be applied to all annual boat permits issued for Big Bear Lake in the 2009 boating season, given a resolution passed by the Municipal Water District’s Board of Directors on Thursday. There were no protests to the fee increase, either in person at the meeting of February 19 or submitted in writing, so directors proceeded with the increase, which will provide the district a revenue to coincide with expenses, including the offering of free boat launching and parking, boating safety patrol officers and public restrooms, including the two floating S.S. Relief stations on Big Bear Lake. The MWD Board also approved an additional $5 increase per permit, to cover the mitigation costs associated with the threat of the Quagga Mussel. This $5 appropriation will only be in effect for as long as the Quagga poses a threat to the ecosystem of Big Bear Lake.
In other news from the meeting of last week, Division 3 Director Skip Suhay was granted an excused leave of absence, as he had missed two February board meetings, as well as some committee meetings, due to health reasons. Suhay plans to be back on the dais for the March 5 meeting of the MWD.
