Big Bear, CA, May 27, 2011, 12 noon – After yesterday’s announcement by the Bear Valley Unified School District of the appointment of Kurt Madden as the new Supervisor for our school district, Mr. Madden wasted no time in communicating to KBHR his enthusiasm for his new position and goals for the future of BVUSD. Mr. Madden, who is a native of San Diego and National University alumni, is currently serving as Principal of Scripps Ranch High School. He will assume the role of Superintendent effective July 1st replacing Interim Superintendent, Kegham Tashijan. Mr. Madden learned about our district at a recent Western Association of Schools and Colleges workshop and is drawn to our school and community culture. He explains, much like San Diego, Big Bear’s schools are the talk in the community and we are doing so much for our students already. Mr. Madden feels he can lead, guide and support this school district, which, he says, is already doing great things, but once a strategic plan is in place, the sky will be the limit. He saw the opportunity in Big Bear and believes it’s a great fit for him and his family. Mr. Madden tells Kbear that he and his wife are planning on moving here and that they have an affinity for the mountains and the outdoor lifestyle. They have two grown children currently in college but they, too, are exited about the family’s relocation to Big Bear. Mr. Madden is a former professional triathlete finishing three times in the top 10 at the Ironman Triathlon, is a two time winner of the Ultraman Triathlon on the Big Island of Hawaii as well as being an avid bike rider, runner, skier and fisherman. Kbear welcomes the Maddens to our community.
