The Kiwanis Club of Big Bear Valley is already gearing up for the holiday season with plans to once again distribute toys, gift certificates, clothing and shoes to local children in need. Low-income families within the Big Bear Valley are invited to benefit from the Kiwanis’ Gifts for Kids program and, starting this weekend, the service club will be interviewing parents and guardians of children up to age 12. Interviews will take place at the Masonic Lodge, located at 385 South Summit Boulevard (behind the Sheriff’s Station), on Sunday, November 1 from 2 to 5pm, and again on November 14 and 15 and December 6. Gifts for Kids will be distributed to local children on Saturday, December 19, from 8am to 5pm, and also at the Masonic Lodge. As in years past, the community is invited to make contributions of new, unwrapped toys; drop boxes will be available at local businesses. Monetary donations are also being accepted, for the purchase of gift certificates, shoes and clothes; Gifts for Kids Director Jennie Boyington notes that the Masons have already contributed to the effort, with a $200 donation, which is tax-deductible. For more information on family interviews or gift-giving opportunities through the Kiwanis Club’s Gifts for Kids program, contact Boyington at 584-3419; donations can also be mailed to Kiwanis Club Foundation of Big Bear Valley, P.O. Box 6522, Big Bear Lake, CA 92135.
