Big Bear, CA, June 8, 2012, 8:00am – During Wednesday night’s regularly scheduled meeting of the Board of Trustees for the Bear Valley Unified School District, in a 4-0 vote, trustees appointed Scott Waner to serve as Interim Principal of Big Bear Elementary School. Dr. Al Waner was intentionally absent from the discussion and action taken on this agenda item, as he is Scott’s father. Mr. Waner has been a long-time teacher at Big Bear Elementary School and, according to Walter Con, Director of Business Services for the District, the Interim Principal position will be for one year beginning with the upcoming school year, 2012-2013. Mr. Waner is replacing current Principal, Jeanette Haston, who earlier this year made the decision to return to teaching in the classroom and although it is unknown at this time which Big Bear valley school site or grade she will be teaching, Mrs. Haston will be reassigned within the District. BVUSD had searched for and hired a Principal for BBES, Michelle Case from Las Vegas, NV, however, Mrs. Case withdrew her acceptance for the position shortly after she was hired due to a family illness. According to Superintendent Kurt Madden, the District is resuming the process of searching for applicants to permanently fill the Principal’s position at the site.
