Hospital CEO Search Process to Be Determined May 19; BVCHD Celebrates Staff This Week

Big Bear Lake, CA — The CEO Search Committee for the Bear Valley Community Healthcare District, comprised of Ron Peavy and Dr. Michael Hartstein, met bright and early this morning (as in 6:30am, May 10), to review the process by which they will seek a CEO to fill the post left vacant by the March dismissal of Vi Colunga, a position which the district’s CFO Rudy Shutta has covered since December. The CEO Search Committee will engage two firms in the process and, as Shutta explains to KBHR, “We’ll actually engage one firm, but will meet with two before making our selection during a special board meeting on May 19. I will also present a proposal for us to do our own selection, by advertising in the media for a CEO. We can probably accomplish this—find and hire someone—within 60 to 90 days, once we determine the process.”
In other news from the healthcare district, this week, employees of Bear Valley Community Hospital are being celebrated during National Hospital Week, the theme for which is “Health, Hope and Healing.” “National Hospital Week,” says Shutta, “first and foremost, is a celebration of people. We’re extremely proud of each member of our staff and we recognize the important role they play in extending a sense of trust to our patients and our communities.” In celebration of National Hospital Week, which dates back to 1921, local hospital employees will be treated to daily festivities this week, including a miniature golf tournament on site on Friday—and new t-shirts. “All of our employees will get an Amgen t-shirt,” the acting CEO adds, “which we bought from the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce, and then specially labeled with Bear Valley Community Healthcare District.”
