San Bernardino, CA, March 14th, 2016 – HERO an acronym that stands for: Home Energy Renovation Opportunity, is a program, which operates in partnership with local governments, enables homeowners to make energy- and water-efficiency improvements and pay for them over time through their property tax bill. HERO has been active within San Bernardino County since October 2013. To date, the program has financed 10,800 local home efficiency projects for a total of $228 million. The program is estimated to have created more than 1,900 local jobs.
The HERO Program is available to residential property owners in many cities and counties, including San Bernardino County and there are no fees to apply for HERO.
HERO finances 100% of the cost for purchase and installation of eligible water and energy efficient products. HERO offers fixed interest rates, flexible payment terms including 5/10/15/20 years for most products. Additionally, if the property is sold before the HERO financing is repaid in full, the remaining payments may be able to be passed on to a new property owner.
As San Bernardino County looks for more ways to conserve water and slow residential energy costs, the program shows a solution that is actually working on a significant scale.
