The Board of Directors for the Bear Valley Community Healthcare District convened for an early morning meeting yesterday, to address the resignation of Director and Treasurer Bill Speyers, who resigned from the elected position on December 31, given health reasons, per healthcare district President Dr. Chris Fagan. The remaining board, which includes Fagan, 1st Vice President Kathy Bauch, 2nd Vice President Brad Summers, and Secretary Ron Peavy, moved on January 12 to appoint a new director to replace Speyers on a term that extends through November. Registered voters interested in serving on the healthcare district board have until Monday, January 25 to submit an application, upon completion of a district-approved questionnaire, which is available from the district’s acting CEO Rudy Shutta, or from the front desk at the hospital located at 41870 Garstin Drive in Big Bear Lake. Directors will meet on January 27 at 6:30pm, at which time they may appoint a successor for Speyers. BVCHD directors receive a $100 stipend per meeting, not to exceed five in a calendar month. And, as for yesterday’s closed session item billed as public employee discipline/dismissal/release, President Fagan tells KBHR that they addressed the potential employee dismissal and, he says, “We are going on with our investigation into healthcare district issues.”
