Big Bear Lake, CA — The entire staff of Bear Valley Electric Service turned out and worked a lot of overtime on Harry Scarborough’s first day on the job at BVES. But it wasn’t because they were trying to please the new boss, according to their press release–Scarborough is the new BVES Director, who chose his start date as January 25, the same day Bear Valley was blanketed in snow and BVES crews were a week into ’round the clock efforts to restore power to customers.
After an extensive search, parent company Golden State Water’s President and CEO Robert J. Sprowls named Scarborough Bear Valley Electric’s new director, overseeing all operations and personnel. Prior to joining Bear Valley Electric (and moving to the Big Bear Valley, as required), Scarborough had been in San Diego serving as senior vice president of business development and operations for MMC Energy of New York since December 2006. Prior to joining MMC, the new BVES Director was general manager of the 750MW Calpine Pastoria Energy Facility located near Bakersfield. He also held the position of director of operations and maintenance for GE/Enron Wind Company, and was international regional manager for Stewart Stevenson Operations Inc. His responsibilities there included directing eight plant managers in the daily operation of 600MW of combustion turbine generation in Australia, India, United Arab Emirates and China. In addition to his 15 years of commercial plant operations experience, Scarborough also served 20 years in various propulsion engineering assignments aboard numerous U.S. Navy ships, and also holds a BS in Business Administration and a Master’s of Science in Management.
In the BVES statement, new Director Scarborough says, “I am looking forward to expanding and strengthening the BVES commitment to provide quality service to the Big Bear community. We have a great team here in Big Bear, and the recovery from the recent storms shows how this team responds to a tremendous challenge”.
