Three local families are now homeowners, thanks to the volunteer efforts of Big Bear Valley Habitat for Humanity, who are now narrowing down the candidate families before construction begins on a fourth home. For those interested in potential home ownership through Habitat for Humanity, and those interested in contributing their talents to the effort, an informational Open House will be held this Sunday, March 15 at the Presbyterian Church at 579 Knickerbocker Road in Big Bear Lake. Starting at 2pm, Habitat for Humanity’s Open House will include a slideshow on construction of previous homes. “It’s a community orientation,” explains Habitat President Rick Fromm. “I promise everybody, we’ve got a job for them. There’s plenty to do, and we could do more at Habitat if we had more help.” Habitat is a non-profit that funnels donations of labor and materials to provide homes for low-income families; those selected also participate in the home-building process. To further the effort of funding, Habitat for Humanity also has a taco fundraiser scheduled for next Monday, March 16; dollar tacos will be available at Sonora Cantina, from 11am to 9pm, and all proceeds will benefit Big Bear Valley Habitat for Humanity.
