After a nearly three-month race, Fawnskin has this month named their new Honorary Mayor in Dave Hough. Fawnskin resident and military veteran Hough, who ran against writer Bradley Winch and Moose member Dennis London in the friendly competition, earned the title of mayor by bringing in the most change, per Lori Gardiner, President of the North Shore Improvement Association, the non-profit that oversees the election. As Gardiner tells KBHR, “We joke that we’re really the last honest election. We brought in well over $10,000, one quarter at a time, and that was fantastic—that’s the biggest return we’ve ever gotten in the Fawnskin Honorary Mayor race.” The change that literally brought Hough the title will also allow for positive change at North Shore Elementary, the site where Fawnskin’s youngest attend school. Last year, the NSIA donated $75 to each North Shore teacher but, given the big returns in this mayoral race, NSIA plans to allot $100 to each NSES teacher in 2009. Other benefits of the $10,000+ raised will allow for a $1,500 donation to the Fawnskin Firefighters Fund, as well as a number of donations earmarked for local charities and groups, including the Community Emergency Response Team, Search and Rescue, Habitat for Humanity, DOVES and the Lighthouse Project.
