The San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors approved the allocation of $20,000 to fund a partnership between the Economic Development Agency and the Big Bear Valley Events Resource Office at last week’s board meeting. The Events Resource Office was established in 2002 to help promote Big Bear Valley tourism and recreational amenities. One of the major issues facing our area is the significant difference in business and economic activity between the ski season and the rest of the year. In reality, the Big Bear Valley offers ample opportunities and attractions throughout the year. According to District Supervisor Neil Derry, he said “We hope to increase the economic health and vitality of the area by developing strategies that will promote the area as a year round tourist destination”. Also noteworthy, the funds will come out of Supervisor Derry’s elective projects budget, which is designed to finance unbudgeted local needs. In response to this financial commitment, Rick Bates, Director of the Events Resource Office, says, “It’s great to have the county on board again this year as a full partner with the Events Office. Their support has been tremendous and very beneficial to the entire valley”.
