The Elks Ladies of Big Bear have hosted an annual high tea for 20 years or so but, in recent years, have opened this fun event to the public in order to turn it into a fundraising opportunity that ultimately benefits our community. Proceeds from this Saturday’s Elks Ladies High Tea, says President Carol Choisnet, will allow the Elks Club to continue with ongoing charity efforts, including in-home therapy sessions for children with disabilities, scholarships for local high school students, the holiday gift basket program (which, last year, fed over 150 Big Bear families), and utility bill assistance for local families in need. This year’s high tea will not only include sandwiches, pastries, teas, and a door prize for each attendee, but a special appearance by the Manly Men (who, as a Village People cover band, will present an adult-themed concert). Tickets to Saturday’s 1pm tea, to be held at the Elks Lodge in the Village, are $15 each, and available by calling Carol Choisnet at 584-4614 prior to the event.
