San Bernardino, Ca, November 15, 2010, 8:00am – The San Bernardino Board of Supervisors will consider capping the number of administrative, vacation, and holiday hour’s exempt employees can accumulate to limit financial exposure to taxpayers. The measure comes before the Board at the request of Supervisor Neil Derry who has expressed concern over the millions of dollars in unpaid benefits that have been accrued by the county workforce. If passed, the measure would convert the administrative leave benefit to a use-it-or-lose-it system and cap the number of hours employees can bank for vacation and holiday time. The policy would go into effect beginning with the first pay period of 2011. “Our new CAO discovered that these outstanding liabilities are in the millions of dollars and were not properly accounted for by previous leadership leaving the general fund to pick up the tab,” Supervisor Derry stated.
