Given the potential for snow this weekend, starting today and into Monday, the County of San Bernardino advises mountain residents to be prepared, by having water on hand (at least one gallon per person per day) and an ample supply of food, and prescription medications if needed. The County’s Public Works Department notes that snow may take extra time to be cleared from the secondary-residential roads due to current accumulations. Emergency vehicle access to affected areas dictates that main roads, which junction off state highways, receive first priority for plow services. The County is extending the snow shifts and hiring outside contractors to assist them in the snow removal efforts. Snow may prompt delays on our mountain roads, for those traveling to Big Bear; also, motorists are required to carry chains when in the mountains during the winter months. At this time [9am Friday], there are no chain requirements for roads to, from and within the Big Bear Valley.
