Big Bear City, CA — Second-term Big Bear City Community Services District Director Marge McDonald was named the CSD Board’s President in a 3-2 vote earlier this month, however a re-do is scheduled for Monday evening (despite the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday). On January 4, CSD President John Day asked his fellow directors if they would like to nominate themselves for the position of president in 2010, then conducted voting under secret ballot, which resulted in the votes of Day, McDonald and Rick Ollila for McDonald and Barbara Beck and Jeff Newsome for Beck. It wasn’t until the next day, January 5, that Day contacted media, noting that the election would be re-done as the secret ballot was illegal and, in fact, a violation of the Brown Act. Day’s January 4 election to vice president was unanimous, and not done under secret ballot, so he will retain that post for 2010; in the meantime he has also retained his presidential post. January 18’s CSD election, to be held during the regular 5:30pm board meeting at the CSD offices at 139 E. Big Bear Boulevard, will also include an introduction to BVUSD Superintendent Nancy Wright, who joined the school district in October, and Trustee Beverly Grabe, who was elected school board president in December.
