In other news from this week’s City Council meeting, Firefighter/Paramedic Jon Curtis was sworn in as the newest member of the Big Bear Lake Fire Department. A second generation firefighter, Curtis was pinned by his father while Fire Captain Ryan Harold, who also serves as a teacher at Riverside Community College, told Council, “He [Jon Curtis] is a shining star, and was a shining star at paramedic school.”
During Councilmember reports, Liz Harris spoke on Bear Valley’s Community College program. Harris has been instrumental in bringing college-level curriculum to Big Bear and, having set out to do what they hoped to do, she said, “Now it’s the community’s turn to tell us what they want.” That opportunity will come when Harris and the Lighthouse Project’s Beth Gardner moderate a community visioning meeting on Monday, March 30, at the Big Bear Discovery Center at 5pm.
City Council also, at their meeting of March 9, reviewed the Development Impact Fee and Nexus Report for Big Bear Lake, as development fees are to come before Council in a Public Hearing Item scheduled for their March 23 meeting. Impact fees are not paid by the existing community, but are placed on development to offset the impact on infrastructure and service levels.
