Per a profile of the City of Big Bear Lake, which was generated by the Southern California Association of Governments (or SCAG), Big Bear Lake residents average age 42, while in greater San Bernardino County that average is age 30. The SCAG-produced statistical data was provided to the City to assist in planning activities by outlining specifics with regard to demographics, socio-economics and housing. Big Bear Lake’s numbers were smaller in other respects as well. Our average household size is 2.4 as opposed to the County’s 3.3; the City’s median family income (in 2007) was $52,420, which is more than $5,600 less than the County average, though a median existing home price in Big Bear Lake in 2008 was $325,000—or $100,000 more than County averages. The SCAG Regional Council District 11, which includes Barstow, Big Bear Lake, Needles, Twentynine Palms and Yucca Valley, is represented by Bill Jahn, as an extension of his duties as Mayor Pro Tem on the City Council of Big Bear Lake.
