Big Bear Valley, CA — In non-budget news from Bear Valley Unified School District, open enrollment is underway for families who have kindergarten students for the coming school year. Children who will be five years old on or before December 2, 2010 are eligible to enroll at their nearest school site: North Shore Elementary on Stanfield Cutoff, Baldwin Lane Elementary in Sugarloaf, and Big Bear Elementary, at the eastern-most part of the Village of Big Bear Lake. Parents should bring the child’s birth certificate, immunization records, and proof of residency with physical address to the school; proof of a current physical will also be required prior to the start of the school year, which begins August 3. Prospective parents at North Shore Elementary are also encouraged to participate in kindergarten orientation, which will be held this Thursday, April 22 at 6:30pm. Baldwin Lane and Big Bear Elementaries have not yet scheduled their orientation meetings, though BBES will likely host theirs in August and, in the meantime, Baldwin Lane will be open this Thursday, from 5 to 7pm, for working parents who need to complete kindergarten enrollment paperwork.
For older students in BVUSD, specifically those who plan to participate in Big Bear High School athletics next school year, athletic physicals will take place on Thursday, April 29; this opportunity at BBHS is available to all current juniors, sophomores and freshmen. Start times on the 29th are 5pm for current juniors, 5:45pm for current sophomores, and 6:30pm for current freshmen. For $60, students can get both their ASB card and the athletic physical; sport-specific and P.E. clothing will also be available for purchase. Current eighth grade students who plan to play sports when freshmen at BBHS next year will have their round of physicals at the high school on Thursday, May 27 starting at 4:45pm.
