Big Bear, CA, May 12, 2015 – At Monday’s Special Board meeting of the Bear Valley Unified School District, Superintendent Kurt Madden gave his resignation to the Board effective July 1st. Mr. Madden has accepted a position in the Bonita Unified School District as Superintendent. Chairman, Bev Grabe, expressed that the Board sadly accepted his resignation. Kegham Tashjian and Dick Bray, advisors from the San Bernardino County Superintendent of School’s office, lead the discussion to explain the process of finding a replacement for Mr. Madden using County services that are offered to BVUSD at no charge. Mr. Tashjian outlined a proposed process and timeline for the Superintendent job search. The search process is lengthy and includes meetings with Board members, representatives of classified, certificated and management staff as well as community member focus groups to determine the requirements and qualifications of what is needed in our District for our future Superintendent. The ultimate decision making powers are held by the Board members. Mr. Tashjian went on to explain that the time frame of finding a permanent Superintendent is too short and the Board will need to consider an Interim Superintendent. Mr. Tashjian has served our District as Interim Superintendent in the past but is currently unavailable. No action was taken in either open or closed session by the Board.
