The Bear Valley Unified School District is looking for Valley residents to serve on the Measure Q Citizens’ Oversight Committee. The volunteer committee will keep the public informed on construction projects that fall under the Measure Q General Obligation Bonds passed by voters in 2002. They will also review expenditures and provide annual reports to the Board of Trustees. The seven members are meant to be a cross-section of Big Bear: One is active in a taxpayers’ association; one represents the business community; one is the parent or guardian of a local student; one is both the parent or guardian of a local student and active in a parent-teacher association; one is active in a senior citizens’ organization; two are members-at-large in the community. Applications for BVUSD’s Measure Q Citizens’ Oversight Committee are available from the school district offices, located at 42271 Moonridge Road in Big Bear Lake. The deadline to turn in applications is Wednesday, October 7; those with questions on committee guidelines can contact Joy Oliver at BVUSD at 866-4631.
In other business from the school district, the Board will on Wednesday hold a public hearing, per Education Code Section 60119, to determine whether each pupil, in each school, has, or will have prior to the end of the eighth week of school, sufficient textbooks and/or instructional materials in each subject. This Ed Code hearing will be held during the regularly scheduled Board meeting on Wednesday, September 16 at 6:30pm at the school district offices.
