Big Bear, Ca, November 10, 2011, 12:00pm – A new program for senior citizens has come to Big Bear. The program called Silver Sneakers is designed for older adults, and is focused on improving flexibility, increasing range of motion, and controlling weight. Big Bear Total Fitness, a gym in Big Bear City has just started the Silver Sneakers program, which is a national program that started in Pheonix Arizona, 12 years ago. Gayla Frederick, owner of Big Bear Total Fitness, has been certified in the program, and told KBHR that she has already seen improvements in the people currently taking the classes, which are designed to help senior citizens with their daily living. According to Gayla, those who have been in the class this past month are already showing improvements with their balance, cardio, stamina and range of motion. What many people may not know about the program is that some insurance plans actually cover the Silver Sneakers program, and there are currently 900 people in the Big Bear Valley who qualify. The class is currently being offered on Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 10:00am, and those who are interested in the class can attend, or call Big Bear Total Fitness at 909 585-6546 for more information.
